Understanding a World in Crisis is a collection of “big picture” commentary and analysis gleaned from across the Internet.

This website has its origins in a lecture series—Understanding a World in Crisis—that examines five long-term geopolitical trends that are reshaping the world order as we know it.

These trends are: 1) the political and religious upheaval in the Middle East; 2) the prospect of a nuclear Iran; 3) the rise of Islam in the West; 4) the economic crisis in Europe and the United States; and 5) the reduction of American power and influence in international affairs.

The articles posted on this website provide further analysis of the five trends listed above from a range of different perspectives and analytical approaches.

The aim is to help readers make sense of the paradigm-shifting events that are taking place in the world today.
